Will Spanbock, DVM -Practice Owner

 Dr. Will Spanbock is our full time Veterinarian and Practice Owner here at Good Ground Animal Hospital! He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Colorado at Boulder and went on to earn his Masters in Environmental Resource Management & Administration from Antioch University. After completing a clinic rotation at Oregon State University, Dr. Spanbock graduated in 2007 from Ross University, School of Veterinary Medicine with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine with honors, and the “Large Animal Surgery Team” Award. He was an Associate Veterinarian at the Eastport Animal Hospital from 2008-2015, and joined our team part time in 2014. In November 2015, he decided to come over full time! Dr. Spanbock was also voted two years in a row by Dan’s paper “Best of the Best Veterinarian" on the South Fork.  Even though his main focus is cats and dogs, he also has experience in treating small animals such as rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs and rodents. When Dr. Spanbock isn’t taking care of your pets, he’s either catching some waves on his surfboard, traveling with his wife Bria, and three children Kayla, Brady, and Hannah, or relaxing at home with his Labrador Retrievers, Willow & Percy!

Dorothy Walker, DVM

Dr. Dorothy Walker is one of our veterinarians here who graduated from the University of the Philippines in 1980. In 1984 she opened the Animal Clinic of Long Island City.  She has spent time working with rescue organizations and shelters but feels she belongs in small animal practice. Her focus is mainly dogs and cats. Having been in practice for many years she states “Our philosophy is to treat our clients and their pets with compassion and undivided attention. We feel everyone should receive first class service.” Dr. Walker congratulates Dr. Spanbock for being the new owner of the clinic! She now resides in Long Island with her husband Joe, her daughter Carla, and her dogs Ginger & Foo!

Heather Swanson, DVM,CVA

Dr. Heather Swanson used to work here as one of our licensed technicians in 2011. She continued her education by dedicating herself to the profession. She went off to Ross University to become a veterinarian. She completed her clinical rotations at Cornell University, & graduated as a Licensed Veterinarian! Additionally, after completing vet school, she attended The Chi Institute where she became a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist. Dr. Swanson is now our newest doctor on staff & excels in her efforts to inform and educate our clients, all while providing the best care for your furry family member. If you need to travel internationally with your pet, she is also an Accredited USDA Veterinarian! When Dr. Swanson isn't treating your pets, she takes care of her Boston Terrier named Phoebe at home!

Jennifer Poole -Hospital Administrator

 Jennifer Poole is our Office Manager at Good Ground Animal Hospital. She has been here since August 2011, and is very passionate about developing and supporting high quality veterinary healthcare. Her compassion and empathy has been a cornerstone to her building trust and relationships with our clients. Jen feels that your pet’s health is our first priority and ensures that when your pet is here, they will be treated like family. She is here to put you at ease and answer any of your questions! When Jennifer isn’t taking care of your pets, she enjoys reading, watching Horror movies and relaxing at home with her dog Cali!

Lilly Shultz - Administrative Coordinator

 We’re so happy to have Lilly taking care of our front office for our Hospital. She prides herself in resolving issues efficiently and is a true animal lover. Her and her Husband Brendon take care of five pets. They have 3 cats named Maya, Luna, & Zelda, and 2 dogs named Baylee & Xena. She loves meeting new people and pets, and getting to work with animals every day. She also enjoys educating pet owners on the importance of keeping their pets healthy.  Lilly is known for her organization skills, her kindness, and always having a smile on her face. In her spare time, Lilly enjoys cooking new recipes for her and Brendon, building cars & watching a nice Disney movie with her fur babies!!

Billie Sanders, Licensed Veterinary Technician - Hospital Supervisor

Billie is our licensed veterinary technician here at Good Ground Animal Hospital. She has been working in the veterinary field for over 20 years! She specialized in emergency medicine, working at various emergency veterinary hospitals, but has switched over to small practice medicine. She came to us full time in June 2016 and we are so lucky to have her! Billie is full of knowledge and expertise when it comes to helping your pets, and is ready and willing to assist the doctors in whatever situation may arise. She is energetic and always there to offer a helping hand. Her hard work and dedication to a small animal practice makes her a great addition to our team! When Billie isn't taking care of your pets, she’s relaxing at home with her husband, and 2 daughters, or she’s playing with her 3 rescue dogs Nathan, Jessie, and Homer!

Nick Walrath -Veterinary Assistant

 Nick is one of our Veterinary Assistants here at Good Ground Animal Hospital. He has been working here for almost four years and we couldn’t be more happy he’s on our team! He graduated from BOCES with a certification in Veterinary Assisting and is currently counting his education in Veterinary Medicine and is working towards his Veterinary Technician License. Nick is energetic and easy going, but also cares about your animals and takes their well being very seriously. He is fun loving and ready to assist in whatever situation arises. His hard work and dedication to a small animal practice makes him a great team member! When Nick isn’t taking care of your pets, he is tending to his various amounts of aquatic life, or hanging out at home with his Dachsund Mix Gunner, his Teddy Bear Lola, or his Domestic Long Hair feline Pickles!

Jennifer Riese -Veterinary Assistant

 Jenn R. is one of our veterinary assistants here at Good Ground Animal Hospital. She came to us full time in January 2016 and we are so glad to have her. Jenn R. is very energetic and compassionate when it comes to the well being and health of your furry friends. She’s experienced in all aspects of our clinic and is willing and ready to assist the Doctors in whatever situation may arise. She also rescues feral and stray cats in order to provide them a better life. Her hard work and dedication to a small animal practice makes her a great addition to our team! She is currently enrolled in a Veterinary Technician Program and will be licensed very soon! She even owns her own business where she boards your pets in her home or can stay at yours! We are so very excited for her!! When Jenn isn’t taking care of your pets, she’s watching an Avengers movie or hanging out at home with her cats Cinnamon, and Buddy!

Kelli Alfredson -Veterinary Assistant

 Kelli used to work the Front Desk alongside Lilly, but wanted to grow in the Veterinary field more and became one of our Veterinary Assistants. She has shown great determination & she has always had a love for animals with a strong desire to help them. She completed the Animal Science program at BOCES and is currently attending college for her Associates in the Veterinary field. She has one dog named Prince and 3 cats named Flash, Mowgli, & Hazel. In her free time she likes to watch Grey’s Anatomy, hang out with her friends, and go for walks with Prince.

Jeffry Brenes -Kennel Assistant

Jeff is our kennel assistant here at Good Ground! He completed his animal science course and hopes to one day become a licensed veterinary technician. During the day, he takes care of all the animals boarding, making sure that they always have enough food, water, exercise, and play time! He's always available to give a good belly rub, or plenty of treats! Jeff is full of energy, and willing to help the other assistants whenever he can. His hard work and dedication to a small animal practice makes him a great addition to our team. When Jeff isn't taking care of your pets, he's either eating Moe's, or hanging out at home with his Labrador Retriever, Sky!

Paige Confort -Veterinary Receptionist

 Paige joined our team in August 2018 with previous experience at an emergency animal hospital. Paige's love for animals and her interest in the medical field are what inspired her to pursue a career in the Veterinary field. She loves meeting new people and pets and getting to work with animals every day. Her job keeps her on her toes and she’s always tried at the potential to learn more and grow every day. She has one horse named Joy, two dogs named Lola & Roxy, her cat Luna and other farm animals. In her free time she loves horseback riding and would own her own ranch if money wasn’t an option. She also enjoys working on her parent’s farm, and spending time with her family.
